Location Recces

location recces for upside down film production

During the process of my current assignment unit 6 - selecting, filming and editing a short video narrative production, one of the key elements of the portfolio is to do location recces on each aspect of my storyboard. Below I have added recce photos, with various rooms which I will specify why I chose that room and the reason for the choice with relation to my video production.

Location #1 - My first choice of location was to depict my lead character Graham (Steve Maloney) returning home after a night of relaxation and meditation. I need a walkway and garden path for the purposes of the scene and to capture the wide shot to accentuate Graham's loneliness.

Location #2 - My second location was for scene 2 in which my lead character Graham(played by Steven Maloney) wakes up and finds to his surprise that his girlfriend (Abbie Chilton) is not sleeping calmly by his side. This bedroom is sizeable and I have permission to film there from Abbie Chilton.

Location #3 - location 3 was chosen for scene 3, as Graham (Steve Maloney visits his girlfriends (Abbie  C) parents house, he enters to see his girlfriend, her sister (Sophie Kelly), Dad (Richard Orange) and Mum (Leanne Kelly) laughing telling jokes and poking fun at Graham as he was the last to know. The idea for choosing this location was the need for a spacious room with sofas and furniture, I gained permission from Abbie Chilton to film in these locations.

Location #4 - This location is similar to location 2, however on set we may choose a different bedroom to film in. Location 4 is for the purposes of Graham (Steve M) trying to rekindle his relationship with his girlfriend with flowers and confessing that despite his lack of wealth he has love and promises for keeps, his girlfriend however is never an easy person to please. The ideal location was a bedroom that was spacious and this recce has helped me establish the right areas for filming.

Location #5 - Location 5 was chosen for scene 5 and will be filmed with the part of the story where Graham's girlfriend comes home and tells him to sit down, she has some news and it is not easy to tell, Graham accepts that he is shocked she has come home lighter than before and it was not really what he wanted to hear. This scene will be in a lounge as it will be a meeting point for the two characters and will be a critical point of their relationship.

Location #6 - Location 6 was chosen as a location whereby Graham (Steve M) visits his girlfriend again and tries to salvage things one last time, he is told however by his girlfriend that she was forced into having an abortion by her parents. Graham upset and offended, decides to leave her and leave this part of his life behind. This will be filmed in the living room as it is spacious and provides furniture for the two characters.

Location #7 - Location 7 will be used for scene 7 in which Graham leaves the house and ignores all of his girlfriends calls, believing that it is best to leave her all alone as she always wanted. Graham now accepts that he has done all he can and leaving upset he finds a place to hideaway, for privacy but promises to return. The idea for this scene is the garden path will amplify the idea that Graham now walks a lonesome path.

Location #8 - Thackley woods is the choice for location 8 as this location is only a short ten minute walk from the house which I am filming in, also Thackley woods provides the perfect setting for the theme of scene 8 which is the idea that Graham (Steve Maloney) finds a sanctuary and a beautiful place to reconnect with mother nature.

Location #9 - Location 9 is for scene 9 in which Graham returns home to find that his girlfriend is with another guy and has fallen in love with another man (Thomas Shearer), Graham is upset and unsure why all these things keep on happening to him. Graham also accepts that it is good that she is happy now and he also accepts that life will also bring him happiness as well as sadness along his way.

Location #10 - This location was chosen as this is the 10th scene and the scene in which Graham sits and thinks to himself that he could of brought his girlfriend home but decided not to, as he knows that she is happy and it is important for him to move on in life. This was a simple location chosen to simply show Graham's change of mood.

Location #11 and #12 - Location #11 which is the front room was chosen as the main location for the final scene, scene 11. This scene will display a large celebration / party and provides Graham the opportunity to meet new people and let go of his old relationship woes. Location #12 is the garden and this is also where the party can be seen so this will showcase the depth of the celebrations as Graham finally lets go of his old past issues.
